A common and expensive assumption: that Clean Truck Check is a California-plates problem. It is not. The program follows the vehicle into the state, whatever the registration says.
The threshold
Diesel and alternative-fuel vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 14,000 pounds that operate in California fall under the program. Occasional trips count.
If you enter California rarely
For infrequent entries there is a temporary option: a 5-Day Pass covers a short window without putting the vehicle into the full compliance cycle. It is the right tool for a one-off delivery and the wrong one for a regular lane.
If you are in the state regularly
Then full compliance is the cheaper path. Reporting on the normal cadence avoids repeat passes, keeps the vehicle clear of enforcement, and removes the risk of a registration hold rippling back to your home state paperwork.
What we handle
We file the reporting side through CTC-VIS — new certifications, renewals and 5-Day Passes — and confirm your compliance status by email. The physical test stays with a CARB-authorized facility; everything after it is ours.
