What Is Clean Truck Check Reporting?
Clean Truck Check reporting is the vehicle inspection and maintenance program to keep heavy-duty emissions control systems working properly on public roads. It applies to diesel and alternative-fuel vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR, including out-of-state trucks, buses, and commercial fleets operating in California. Coverage also extends to public agency vehicles, motorcoaches, and transit and school buses, regardless of where the vehicle is registered.
Compliance is verified through CTC-VIS, where vehicle reporting, fee payment, and emissions test results are all recorded. Vehicles that fall out of compliance face a DMV registration hold, a restriction that stays in place until the required reporting, fee, and testing are completed.

How do I get a Clean Truck Check certificate in California?
The first stage is reporting your vehicle information and paying the annual compliance fee. If emissions testing is required, it must be completed by a CARB-credentialed tester. Once all requirements are met and CTC-VIS shows the vehicle as compliant, the certificate becomes available.
Can non-carb compliant trucks enter California?
No, a non-CARB-compliant heavy-duty truck generally cannot legally operate in California.
Will I receive a Clean Truck Check compliance certificate after application?
A compliance certificate becomes available only after CARB’s system confirms that all applicable reporting, fee, testing, and other requirements have been met. We do not issue or approve the certificate.
How long does the reporting process take?
After receiving the required information, we typically complete the reporting and email your confirmation and current status within 15–30 minutes.
What if I need to operate before full compliance is completed?
A vehicle may qualify for a temporary 5-Day Pass, which allows operation in California for five consecutive days and is generally available once per calendar year per vehicle. The pass does not make the vehicle compliant after it expires.
